Webinar Recap - Unlock the Power of LoRa® Dual-Band Location Intelligence: Asset Tracking with Light Infrastructure

 Swaroop Chitturi

In busy emergency departments, locating essential equipment like stretchers and wheelchairs is critical for minimizing wasted time and ensuring quality patient care. This exemplifies how effective asset tracking technology with real-time location data allows operations to focus on core business purposes, maximizing value and efficiency. Various market solutions address this need using diverse, complementary technologies. The most successful solutions don't rely solely on superior technical capabilities but deliver them at the lowest cost, accelerating return on investment.

A recent webinar featuring Duncan Bennett (country manager, UK & Ireland, Indesmatech), Ian Grostate (commercial director, Convert Technologies), Dave Belcher (development director, Convert Technologies), and Tim Cooper (principal applications engineer, Semtech) demonstrated how LoRa® dual-band and Round-Trip Time of Flight (RTToF) technologies are revolutionizing asset tracking. The speakers highlighted how the strategic combination of performance, flexibility and minimal infrastructure requirements provides a cost-effective alternative to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon solutions.

Round-Trip Time of Flight (RTToF) Ranging

Following a comprehensive introduction to LoRa Round-Trip Time of Flight (RTToF), the discussion centered on TaCT (Tracking and Communication Technology). This patented tracking solution by Convert Technologies enhances Sub-GHz LoRaWAN® networks with 2.4 GHz location intelligence using LoRa RTToF ranging. The system operates through anchors and mobile tags to track assets indoors or outdoors. Configuration and data exchanges occur over Sub-GHz via existing LoRaWAN gateways, while ranging is performed over 2.4GHz, achieving sub-2-meter accuracy.

The map displays various colored markers distributed across the campus structures and parking areas, with a legend identifying anchors and tags/sensors. Roads including Meadway and Crompton Rd are visible around the perimeter of the tracked area
