Swarm Takes LoRa® Sky-High

Posted by IEEE Spectrum on 08 April 2021

There are plenty of reasons to deploy an Internet of Things (IoT) network in a rural area. But connecting dozens or hundreds of sensors to a network can also be a nightmare. Wind turbines or oil wells benefit from sensors measuring their respective environments and performance, but their operators should count themselves lucky if such energy harvesting facilities happen to be in range of robust cellular networks so they can stay connected to the Internet. The same is true of cargo containers crossing an ocean on a ship; they could be easily tracked with individual identifying devices, but at sea, they need satellites to transmit and receive signals at all.

LoRaWAN® 协议通过新的远距离跳频扩频技术扩展网络性能

Tuofu Lu 发表于 2020 年 11 月 30 日

The LoRa Alliance®, an open, non-profit global association that develops, maintains and promotes the LoRaWAN® protocol for low power wide area networks (LPWANs), has expanded its guidelines to include Long Range - Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (LR-FHSS) data rates. The LR-FHSS rates significantly increases network capacity and robustness to interference – opening the door to new deployment opportunities across the globe.

Lacuna Space Shoots for the Stars with LoRaWAN®

Posted by Remi Lorrain on 09 September 2019

Semtech’s LoRa® devices and the LoRaWAN® protocol offer several advantages for the Internet of Things (IoT) that have enabled it to lead in a competitive marketplace. Perhaps the most important of these advantages is LoRa devices’ unique capacity for long-range data communication. A single LoRa-based gateway provides deep indoor connectivity in underground or city environments, and connectivity to LoRa-enabled end nodes from up to 30 miles away in rural environments. This is especially important in parts of the world where Cellular connectivity is scarce or nonexistent. In places such as these, LoRaWAN-based networking and LoRa-enabled end nodes provide the quickest to deploy and most cost-efficient option for IoT connectivity, enabling smarter solutions that could not otherwise exist.

Back Down to Earth: Semtech and Lacuna Receiving Messages from Space

Posted by Rob Spurrett on 15 February 2018

I’ve been to far too many conferences over the years and usually return home to report a few narrow bands of interest interspersed over a wide band of noise. But I can easily say that this was the most exhilarating conference I have attended in recent years. Full stop.
